For six decades, the 6th floor was a basic grouping of private offices and an uninviting, formal counter to greet the public. In addition to more inviting space for staff collaboration, interaction with the public was improved with a larger, more energetic reception area. In lieu of a formal desk, standing-height counters provide a surface to share documents or have a discussion.
The department aimed to create a space that would also attract new talent and improve staff retention. To do this, the layout includes a beautiful break room with exposed structures in the ceiling, lounge chairs and café-style seating to provide a place to chat or a relaxing location to take a break from the desk. The break room also has a wall of windows holding expansive views of Downtown
Green Bay, bringing a beautiful landscape, daylighting, and a reminder of the department’s importance to growing the city.
Interior finishes were chosen to accentuate the building’s vintage feel, but through a contemporary lens. The carpet is menswear patterned, wallcoverings are wood, and specialty, modernist light fixtures illuminate the space. Modern wall graphics contrast the otherwise classic, neutral color palette and breathe in a little excitement.
The reinvigorated 6th floor would be stylish in any era and will enhance the collaboration of its occupants for decades to come.
