Light the Night
Lighting is safety. But it’s also nuance and character. Warmth and expression. Even in urban settings, lighting sets the mood.
That mood is bright in downtown Green Bay where flood and decorative LED lights transform the Ray Nitschke and Walnut Street bridges across the Fox River.
At night, each bridge is bathed in a colorful glow. Programmable controls, secured at each bridge site, create custom light displays to commemorate a holiday or special event. The energy efficient LED lights rarely require maintenance and provide unlimited color options.
On game day, downtown Green Bay often grabs a place in the spotlight as news media feature the bridges’ sporting display: one expanse shines green and gold while the other lights a welcome in opposing team colors.
“Good urban lighting creates a sense of place,” said Mike Leibham, the project’s lead electrical engineer. “It shapes our experience, and sometimes it makes a statement.”
