The softball program at UW-Madison sought to update their locker room and lounge space to create a more energizing team atmosphere. Incorporating dynamic Badger imagery, modern fixtures, finishes and furnishings, the space better suits a team with Big Ten Championship aspirations.

Project Highlights

Creates an energizing team atmosphere with an emphasis on unity

The design theme is unity, accomplished by bringing the team together with better social and work spaces. Aesthetically, ribbons of vibrant red and softball imagery carry through the space to bring an excitement and energy that was previously lacking.

A full renovation of the locker room includes a dimensional softball light fixture and inspiring graphics of players in action to help the team get game-day ready. That imagery style is also deployed in the film room, featuring updated tiered, theater-style seating.

Just off the entrance, the mudroom provides a space to comfortably change footwear and neatly house bat bags.

A new lounge introduces red lighting and uplifting wall graphics to heighten the sense of unity and belonging which is vital to the program’s success.

One of the unique challenges was creating a safe alternative to walking on hard asphalt in cleats when traveling from the facility to the playing field. Berners Schober devised a durable, easy-to-maintain rubber walkway to ensure a more comfortable trek.
