children’s hospital at st. john's
patient floor remodeling

berners schober inc.
The fifth floor of St. John’s Hospital’s Women’s and Children’s Center (WCC) is a pediatric floor that had finishes original to its 1997 construction. Finishes were in great need of updating and furnishings were even more of a priority, as some were not safe for use. A color palette was developed which would provide a cohesive look for both the 5th floor and a future women’s and children’s medical office building on the campus.

Project Highlights

Thoughtful integration of bright, bold, and fun colors

Cleverly straddling the line between comforting and fun, the updated pediatric floor creates a place where patients, staff, and families can rest assured they are in the right place.

A cheerful and amusing color palette is the star of the design, tying together patient rooms, lounges, and nurse work areas. Patterned furnishings play off the fun accent colors, and woodgrain flooring brings a natural balance to the space.
Different accent colors are used to distinguish the nurse stations for pediatrics and pediatric ICU wards from each other. In addition, isolation rooms have improved casework design which keeps necessary equipment close at hand.
