Project Summary

PEDIATRICS HEMATOLOGY & ONCOLOGY CLINIC

Prevea’s Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic located in St. Vincent Hospital was remodeled to expand clinical services to accommodate a growing pediatric patient population and to continue to define the market standard for progressive, family centered care and treatment for cancer and blood disorders.

The design team created an environment within the clinic that depicts an abstraction of childhood journey experiences; walking along the water, hopping along on stepping stones and strolling through the woods. Since the majority of the patients have a suppressed immune system, finishes that are easily cleanable without harsh chemicals and handrails with an antimicrobial finish were selected. Sound masking installed above the ceiling was used to provide verbal privacy for the patients and their families. Design elements such as ceiling clouds, fiberoptic lights installed to mimic stars, color changing LED lights and large pieces of artwork were used for positive distractions while the patients are undergoing treatment.
